THE PUPPINI SISTERS

The Puppini sisters start off in London in 2003 thanks to the initiative of Marcella Puppini (From Bolonia in Italy and immigrated to London to pursue her fashion design studies. Having a grand passion for music and particularly jazz, Marcella Puppini obtains a diploma at the Trinity college of Music in London. It is in this college that she meets with two English musicians: Stephanie O’Brien and Kate Mullins. These three young women become friends and it’s after seeing the film: “The Triplets of Belleville”. Only then do they decide to start a vocal burlesque and retro trio. Inspired by the Andrew sisters, they call themselves the Puppini sisters.

The 40’s will be honored with this group. The “Triplets of Belleville’s” producer will help the Puppini sisters create their first single: a cover version of the Andrew sisters called “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, in 2006. Their first album, “Betcha Bottom Dollar”, comes out in 2006 in England and is exported in the rest of the world. It’s the American label, Verve, that will rerelease the the disc for an international broadcasting the 22nd of October in 2007.

The Puppinis’ sisters musical measures can resemble to the new wave where various songs and cover versions in a very different style of the original version: Jazz, swing and pop in the 30’s and 40’s for example… Here we can see cover versions of the Puppini sisters going from Kate Bush “Wuthering Heights”, Gloria Gaynor “I will survive”, Blondie “Heart of Glass” and even The Smiths ‘Panic”. Their second album, “The Rise & Fall” of Ruby Woo was available in February 2008 in the USA and France on the 5th of January 2009.
